Washington Middle School requires all students to complete summer assignments designed to support an appreciation of reading and mathematical applications, while also providing an opportunity for students to reinforce their reading and math skills throughout the summer months.
Dear Students and Parents of WMS,
This summer, all WMS students entering grades 6-8 will be required to read Restart by Gordon Korman. The One Book, One School (OBOS) Program is designed to create a shared reading experience within a school. Its goal is to promote a positive school culture and be able to identify and discuss important themes to carry into the next school year.
OBOS 2026-2027 SUMMER READING - ELA.pdf
This will be the only required reading for WMS students, unless your child has been given one by their Gifted and Talented teacher.
Restart is available for purchase online or at local bookstores. It is also available at the Harrison Public Library. If you are unable to purchase the book, please access the book via Harbor Me Audio Links: OBOS26: Restart Audio Links
WMS Summer Reading Assignments will be issued the last day of school with Report Cards. All assignments are due Friday, September 4th, 2026. The summer reading assignment will count as your child’s first English Language Arts grade for the 1st Marking Period of the 2026-2027 school year.
